What Melatonin Can Do For You?

Melatonin is a hormone secreted by the pineal gland, a pea-sized gland at the base of the brain.

Insomnia. Use between late afternoon and bedtime. Melatonin powder plays an important role in the induction of sleep. ●Several double-blind trials have shown melatonin supplementation to be very effective in promoting sleep. 

●Low melatonin secretion at night is thought to be an extremely common cause of insomnia in the elderly; this is less of a factor in younger persons. 

For Restful Sleep and Mood 

●Shift Workers. Melatonin powder may help shift workers adjust to new sleep patterns when shifts are changing. 

●Jet lag. Use during and for 5 days after travel that crosses timelines. Several double-blind studies have shown 3 to 5 mg of melatonin to be very effective in relieving jet lag. 

Seasonal Affective Disorder. Melatonin supplementation may improve SAD because it not only increases brain melatonin levels but also because it may suppress cortisol secretion.

Cancer treatment. 

● Melatonin has been shown to inhibit several types of cancers in a test tube and animal studies. 

● In human studies, melatonin has also been shown to enhance the anticancer effects of chemotherapy drugs such as interleukin-2, interferon, and Tamoxifen.
