Watercress is native to Europa and the Eastern Mediterranean. We have been consuming watercress for a long time. It was used as a medical medicinal, especially for anti-scurvy disease, in the early stage of Roman. Since the Middle Ages, people began to eat it as vegetables. According to the data from the US Centers for Disease Control’s Powerhouse Fruits and Vegetables list, watercress is extremely nutrient-dense, which means it contains a vast array of nutrients but is low in calories.
Watercress has also anti-cancer properties. Like many other cruciferous vegetables, watercress contains glucosinolates. Glucosinolates can be transformed to I3C. I3C can lower the risk of many types of cancers. I3C can be also provided by indole 3 carbinol powder.
One highlight of watercress is its vitamin K content. Only 34 grams of watercress contains already 106% of the Reference Daily Intake (RDI). The relationship between calcium and bone health is well-known. But vitamin K also plays an important role in the bone health. Osteocalcin is a protein that regulate bone turnover and make up bone tissue. One of the components of osteocalcin is vitamin K. One study found that people with high intakes of vitamin K were less likely to have fractures than those with low vitamin K intake.
If you want more I3C intake but don’t like vegetables, you can try indole 3 carbinol powder.
